The Special Investigations Unit has terminated an investigation into a February OPP-involved collision that led to two females suffering serious injuries.
According to the provincial police watchdog, the incident occurred on February 17. The Huron Detachment received notification that the South Bruce Detachment had closed the southbound lanes of London Road due to whiteout conditions and an officer was dispatched to assess the road conditions from the south end of Highway 4.
According to the statement from SIU Director Joseph Martino, the officer pulled over to aid an immobilized vehicle in a ditch, and while stopped with his emergency equipment activated, a snowplow struck the rear of the cruiser, pushing the vehicle forward into two individuals who were beside their snowmobiles.
Two women, aged 46 and 17, were transported to hospital and diagnosed with several fractures and dislocations.
Martino wrote that "it was readily apparent that the officer did nothing that could conceivably attract criminal liability in connection with the injuries of the two individuals."
With nothing to as far as the potential criminal liability of the police, the file has been closed.
