UPDATE: Health unit warns of five more measles exposures in Huron-Perth

Huron Perth Public Health is warning of five more local measles exposures in the region.

According to a media release from HPPH officials, there were three more exposures in Perth County from April 19-23.

The first was at Veky's International Cuisine on Main Street in Listowel on Saturday, April 19 from 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Two other incidents both occurred at the Stratford General Hospital. The first was on Tuesday, April 22 in the emergency department from 3:49 p.m. to Wednesday, April 23 at 6:31 p.m.

The other measles exposure occurred in the ultrasound department on Wednesday, April 23 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, an exposure was found on the same day at the St. Marys Memorial Hospital in the emergency department waiting room from 4:12 p.m. until 6:28 p.m.

In Huron County, a measles exposure was found at Seaforth Community Hospital in the emergency department waiting room there from 5 p.m. until 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.

Anyone who was at these locations at these times should monitor for measles symptoms for 21 days.

If you or a family member was exposed and now have developed measles symptoms:

Report to HPPH by calling 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3284 and follow public health advice. Until you are contacted by public health, do the following:

Stay home and avoid contact with other people. Avoid having visitors in your home.

If you need medical care, call ahead before going to a healthcare facility. Tell them you have been exposed to measles and have developed measles symptoms, so the facility can prepare for your arrival and prevent the virus from spreading to others.

Wear a well-fitted mask if you need to go out for medical care.
