Local fire departments to hold live fire training exercises

Three local fire departments will hold live fire training exercises in Drayton.

The Minto, Mapleton, and Wellington North fire departments will be bringing a live fire training "trailer" to the Township of Mapleton municipal office in Drayton from April 30 - May 4.

This training is in partnership with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office.

Crews will be doing forced entry, search and rescue and fire suppression exercises.

While the event is not open to the public, the departments are always looking for potential new volunteer firefighters.

"In terms of recruitment, Minto, Mapleton and Wellington North train our personnel in-house to meet NFPA certification requirements so there is not previous training required to apply to be a volunteer," shared Minto Fire Deputy Fire Chief Callise Loos. "We recruit usually twice per year based on vacancies. Volunteers need to live in the urban area of the municipality they serve and be able to commit to a 6-month training program on random weekends throughout the six months. Interested applicants can send a resume to myself."

You can email Deputy Chief Loos at c.loos@mintofiredept.on.ca.
