Man accused of cutting down trees, building log cabin on Conservation lands

A 34-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged after allegedly cutting down trees on Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) land in Wingham.

Huron County OPP said it received a mischief complaint on March 31, that a log home was being built in in a wooded location near Victoria and Helena Streets.

A total of 27 mature trees had been cut down. According to the MVCA, the total value of the loss is $27,000.

Police later identified a suspect, who was arrested on April 13.

The man was charged with mischief over $5,000.

The accused was processed, held for a bail hearing, and later released from custody with a court appearance in Goderich scheduled for June.
