Significant rain to fall throughout midwestern Ontario

A wet weekend is expected across midwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire region warning of significant rainfall Saturday night through Sunday night.

According to the national weather agency, there is the potential for 20 to 40 millimetres of rain before the soggy system moves out. There is also a risk of thunderstorms.

Flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads could be an issue. Environment Canada said this is because the ground is still frozen, which will reduce its ability to absorb the significant rainfall.

On Monday, sunshine returns to the forecast. However, it will be much cooler with a daytime high of only 0 C expected.
