New owners for local golf club

The Wingham Golf and Curling Club has new ownership.

In October of 2024, the not-for-profit and board-run Wingham facility had decided to cease operations. Now, Scott Bowman, co-owner of South Port Golf Club near Port Elgin, and a silent partner have purchased the site. The deal closed January 30, 2025.

The 9-hole course will be renamed the Maitland Links Golf Club, and the curling facility will become the Maitland Granite Curling and Recreation Club. This is in reference to the Maitland River that runs through Wingham.

Bowman, who previously worked as a course superintendent at Glen Abbey in Oakville, says the top priority is upgrading the golf course. He would also like to establish men's and women's leagues, club championships and bring corporate events to the club.

The club had 170 golf members and 100 curlers as of the end of last season.
