Stoney Island Conservation Area reopens

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has announced the reopening of a popular conservation area.

The Stoney Island Conservation Area property has reopened, and many trails are ready for public use. The trails are currently un-groomed, but they are open.

However, the SVCA does warn that recent weather conditions have left some of the trails fairly muddy.

Visitors are encouraged to use caution when visiting the conservation area. Snowshoers, hikers, dog walkers, fat bikers, skiers and all nature enthusiasts are welcome to explore the trails.

The reopening of Stoney Island Conservation Area follows the removal of ash trees in the fall, which addressed a severe infestation of emerald ash borers. Forest and trail remediation work is ongoing.
