Charges laid after person bit by dog in Meaford

One person has been charged after their dog allegedly bit another person in Meaford.

Grey Bruce OPP were called about the incident on Sykes Street North just before 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers found a person with minor injuries who had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

A 36-year-old Meaford resident is charged with failing to prevent their pet from biting a person. They will appear in court at a later date in relation to the charge.

Police are using the incident to remind dog owners it is their responsibility to be aware of local bylaws surrounding where dogs can be off-leash in public.

"It's important to familiarize yourself with these regulations to ensure you're complying with the rules and respecting public spaces," police said in a statement released Wednesday. "Additionally, dog owners should always maintain control of their dogs, especially when off-leash, to ensure the safety of both the animal and others in the community."
