Wings of a Dove fundraiser takes flight again

Huron Hospice has begun its year-end fundraising campaign to help fund its Loss, Grief and Bereavement service.

The Wings Of A Dove campaign has been running since 2018, helping provide loss and grief services for Huron Hospice families at no charge.

Manager of Fund Development Christopher Walker said it's a vital service they provide thanks to generosity from the community.

"Loss and grief is something Huron Hospice does quite well, it's in our DNA," he said. "We help people celebrate lives lived and when people are having a little bit of difficulty with their loss and their grief, we're there to help them. Our team helps people learn how to manage their grief so it's not such a heavy burden."

Unable to send out mailers right now due to the postal strike, Walker said residents should know that the impact of donations will be doubled thanks to great community partners.

"Compass Minerals, Merner Contracting, and the Brussels Lions Club have joined together and they've agreed to match all donations up to $20,000," he said. "So that means if you give $100 you're really giving us $200, and $250 grows to $500."

Walker says the foundation is set up to accept donations at its website, or over the phone. To contact him, call 519-525-7352.

Cheques can also be dropped off at the Bender House. Donations must be made by December 31 in order to receive a tax benefit for 2024.
