The Chi-Cheemaun's 50th sailing season has ended.
The 2024 sailing season officially ended on October 20 with a crowd welcoming the ferry back to the Owen Sound harbour on October 21, where she will remain for the winter.
In 2024, the Chi-Cheemaun witnessed a 2.35 per cent increase in the number of cars carried and a 2.86 per cent increase in passengers, totalling 68,087 vehicles and 186,866 people.
The season was jam-packed with artists, guest lecturers, and entertaining events commemorating and honouring her 50th anniversary. Only one sailing was cancelled due to weather.
For the 2025 sailing season, Owen Sound Transportation Company will continue to bring back beloved voyages like as spring and autumn repositioning cruises.
Reservations will reopen in March 2025, with daily sailings to begin May 2 and continue until October 2025.
The Chi-Cheemaun has carried an estimated 10 million passengers, three million vehicles, and has completed 24,000 voyages between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island since 1974.
