Library Taskmaster returns to Owen Sound

The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library is hosting it's own unique version of the popular British television show, Taskmaster.

Local teams will be challenged to complete pointless and ridiculous tasks during Library Taskmaster Friday, November 15.

The Deputy Chief Librarian, Nadia Danyluk, compared the competition to theatre games you may have played in drama class.

"So if anybody's you know been involved in drama or the theater in any way, some of the kind of silly stuff that they make you do, like, I think they get you know warmed up to be on stage after you like, do improv or something, but it's just, how do you respond to this bizarre thing that you're being asked to do?" she pointed out.

Danyluk explained this is the second edition, after they introduced the game earlier this year.

"So we did that for the first time in February. We had five teams competing, and it was a hoot. And we thought we need to bring that back again," added Danyluk. "Five teams of five people each, and we had probably a similarly sized audience for it. Just, you know, an opportunity to laugh at your friends and neighbours making fools of themselves."

Teams will be assigned pre-event tasks, such as the show favourite prize task, and on the 15th all teams will compete in individual and group challenges to solve a series of tasks set by the Library Taskmaster.

"Each of the teams to interpret that how they will and whoever the winning team is, at the end of the night, wins the five best things to find in a field. I think my favorite thing that somebody brought in one of the teams created this very strange bush that had small animals glued onto it and a pair of underpants. They just thought that would be a great thing to find in the field. It was very strange." she revealed. "I think one of the tasks that we gave back in the winter was composed the most. respectful ransom letter, and they had like magazines and they had to cut the letters out."

Teams must register by November 1 to compete for glory, and a big golden head.

"Of course, our taskmaster, who is performed by local performer, Qaptain Kit, doing the role of the comedian host for it, gets to judge each of them in a very judgmental kind of way," concluded Danyluk. "So it's a good time."

To register, send a list of team members and their contact information to info@library.osngupl.ca no later than Friday, November 1. Library staff will confirm your participation and assign pre-event tasks. A registration fee of $50 per team will be charged once participation is confirmed.
