Air quality is expected to deteriorate later today as smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario moves into the area. Poor air quality may persist into Friday.

During heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status.

Limit time outdoors. Reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Expect a day of partly cloudy with clear spells

A 26-year-old man from Caledon has died in a two-vehicle crash on County Road 17 in the Township of Melancthon.Dufferin OPP said the fatal collision happened shortly after 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, on the county roadway between the 3rd Line and 4th Line.Police said the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.County Road 17 was expected to remain closed for several hours while police continued to investigate.Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Dufferin OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Witnesses may also speak to Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services at (905) 951-3838.
