Swim advisory lifted for one local beach, 8 others deemed unsafe

A swim advisory at a local beach has been lifted, but 8 other local beaches have been deemed unsafe.

Grey Bruce Public Health, in consultation with the City of Owen Sound, has lifted the swim advisory for Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.

The decision was made on Thursday, July 25, after water samples taken at the beach earlier this week showed bacterial levels had returned to within Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines for swimming/bathing.

The beach had been posted as unsafe for swimming on Friday, July 19, due to bacterial levels exceeding those guidelines.

However, according to Huron Beach Info on "X" (formerly Twitter), 8 other beaches have been deemed unsafe due to high bacteria levels.

Those include Amberley, Ashfield Township Park, Port Albert, Goderich Main, Rotary Cove, Houston Heights, St. Joseph's, and Port Blake. The other 6 local beaches tested were deemed safe.
