The Upper Grand District School Board is celebrating achievements of its schools in this year's EcoSchools program.
A release from UGDSB explains that the program is meant to "foster environmental learning and inspire proactive action."
Every school begins by evaluating their own sustainable practices, and then they make plans focusing on energy conservation, waste reduction, school ground greening, and discussing environmental topics in classrooms.
Initiatives run by schools earn them certification rating points, with final certifications in the bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels.
26 UGDSB schools participated this year, and 10 earned platinum status, including Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest, who achieved one of the highest ratings of all.
