Man attempts marathon pool session to raise money for ALS

The Wroxeter Hall will be rocking all weekend, as a local man raises money for a great cause.

Ty Cross will attempt to play pool for 30 hours straight this weekend to support people with ALS.

The 61-year-old regularly plays at the Hall Wednesdays and Fridays, and says that's where the idea came from.

"One night we were driving home and I said to my wife Fay 'I could play pool all night.' So the next morning I thought, what if I did that to raise money for something?" he said. "One of the ladies involved with the Wroxeter Hall was diagnosed with ALS last October and it's progressing quite quickly. So I said to my wife that I think want to play 8-ball in a marathon to raise money for the fight against ALS, so that's how it started."

Cross's marathon game, as well as an accompanying silent auction and food stand, will all raise proceeds to fight the disease.

The marathon starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will run until Sunday at 4 p.m. Cross says he'll take five minute breaks each hour, but other than that, he'll be playing.

He set up a sign-up sheet for opponents and each hour has been filled up. However, drop-ins to the Hall can be accommodated.

"They play a lot, so if somebody comes in off the street, there'll be a sign up sheet, so the regular guys will just step aside and let somebody play," he said.

Even for those that don't want to pick up a cue, there will be live music from George Patterson and karaoke as well. Cross says he likes a loud lively environment, so he hopes the Hall is packed throughout the weekend.

Cash donations can be made at the Wroxeter Hall and donations can also be made online.
