More workers on the job in Midwestern Ontario

The jobless rate edged down in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region in March.

Unemployment decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 4.1 per cent. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate increased by 0.5 to 6.6 per cent, both unadjusted for seasonality.

In February, the region’s overall population increased by over 400. The labour force size increased by more than 3,400 with 3,000 fewer residents not participating in the labour market.

The Region also added 3,900 more employees, with about 2,700 additional full-time workers and 1,300 part-time employment gains.

“It is positive news for our region this month with a large increases in the participation levels and employment,” says Dana Soucie, Executive Director for the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. “It is very encouraging to see the Service Producing Sector make significant gains.”
