The province's police watchdog has terminated an investigation into an alleged assault by a Stratford Police officer.
The incident reportedly occurred during the arrest of a 47-year-old man in June 2023. The Special Investigations Unit was notified of the incident in November.
The man alleged that his rib was fractured during the arrest. However, he did not avail himself of an interview or authorize the release of his medical records.
SIU Director Joseph Martino said that video footage captured by the arresting officer’s body-worn camera suggests that the man’s arrest was uneventful.
As there was no evidence of a serious injury occurring, the SIU was without jurisdiction in this case and the file was closed.
