Impaired driving charges laid following two-vehicle crash

The Owen Sound Police Service has charged one person following a serious two-vehicle crash.

On March 25 just after 7 p.m., police and emergency services personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision that occurred in the city at the intersection of 10th Street and 6th Avenue West.

Both vehicles involved, a 1999 Toyota Corolla and a 2006 Dodge Magnum, were heavily damaged. Luckily, both drivers only received minor injuries.

Police determined the Corolla was west bound on 10th Street when he took a left turn on to 6th Avenue West. The 25-year-old male driver turned in front of the east bound 2006 Dodge Magnum. The severity of the impact sent both vehicles into the west bound lanes of 10th Street.

Officers suspected the driver of the Dodge Magnum may have been consuming alcohol, and the driver subsequently failed a roadside sobriety test. The 25-year-old from Owen Sound had double the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

That driver now faces drinking and driving criminal charges as well as his drivers’ licence immediately suspended for a period of 90 days. The young man was later released from police custody and will appear in the coming weeks in the Owen Sound Court of Justice.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, also an Owen Sound resident, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
