UPDATE: Collision near Lucknow takes two lives

Emergency Crews responded to a crash east of Lucknow that took two lives on the morning of February 20.

Huron County OPP Media Relations and Community Safety Officer, Constable Craig Soldan, said the horrific crash occurred just before 8 a.m. on Bruce Road 86 west of Donnybrook Line.

Soldan said it involved an SUV with a single occupant and a pick-up truck carrying four people and towing a cattle trailer. Soldan added names have not yet been released.

"The driver of the SUV who was killed was a 54-year-old from Huron-Kinloss Township," he explained. "A deceased passenger in the pick-up truck was a 49-year-old from the Municipality of Brockton and the passenger from the pick-up truck that was taken to London by air ambulance was a 39-year-old also from the Municipality of Brockton. The driver of the pickup truck was a 49-year-old from Huron-Kinloss Township."

Soldan said the driver of the pickup truck was treated in a local hospital for minor injuries. He explained what investigators know so far.

"There were some witnesses that we're speaking to, to determine the cause of the crash. From the initial information that I have I understand there was one vehicle overtaking another vehicle, or passing another vehicle on that stretch of roadway," he said.

"Conditions were dry and the roads were dry. It was a nice clear, sunny day and yet we still have a collision that's taken two lives," he pointed out. "I don't want to blame anyone here, but I just want people to just really take the time when they're driving, even if the weather's good and the roads are dry. Please just keep a limit on your speed and when it comes to passing you know, think about if it really is it worth that pass that you're making, you know, for the seconds or a minute of gain that you make by doing that."

The cattle survived the crash and were taken from the scene in another trailer. Soldan called the scene shocking and sad.

The road was closed between Donnybrook Line and Lucknow while OPP investigated the collision. It has since been reopened.
