Do you want to make a senior in your community smile this Valentine's Day? The Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) is accepting cards now for its annual Valentines for Seniors event.
Brooke McLean, director of library services, said they tried to make the crafting process as easy as possible.
"Valentines can be made in the branches, we have supplies there," she said. "We also put together small bags of supplies that people can take home with them to create the valentines if that's easier and then drop them off at any of our 17 branches."
She added you're also free to use your own supplies at home, if that's something you prefer.
The idea all got started during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing the opportunity to make long-term care home residents smile when they weren't able to have visitors.
"Initially, it started out of our Walkerton branch," said McLean. "We had an outstanding response to it and we thought this is really scalable."
It's open to all ages, whether you have a child just learning to write and create, or if you're an older adult and want to put a smile on a fellow Bruce County resident's face.
"We have the staff go in and they're helping to distribute the valentines and the response from those who are receiving the valentines and just building those community connections has been really valuable and heartwarming," MacLean said.
McLean added they hope to have all the valentines in by the end of the week to start the deliveries on Monday, February 12.
