The Township of North Huron has passed its 2024 budget, which means a modest increase to the tax levy for residents.
A 3.8 per cent levy increase was required this year to support a nearly $18 million budget. That equals roughly a $7.43 monthly increase for Wingham residents, and a $6.53 monthly increase for Blyth and East Wawanosh residents.
"North Huron council and staff have worked very hard to prepare the 2024 budget," said Reeve Paul Heffer. "As we move through this year, residents can look forward to many exciting projects as we continue to manage our assets and invest in our infrastructure."
The budget includes $3.75 million in capital spending, nearly 45 per cent of which will be transferred in capital reserves. Other projects include upgrades to the Wingham tennis and pickleball courts, the Wescast Community Centre, the Blyth and District Community Centre, and the Blyth Campground.
There's also several water and sewer projects, costs that will be helped by a 7.1 per cent increase to the water and sewer rates.
Rates for recreation facilities also recently increased, much to chagrin of many residents.
