First Mayor of West Grey has passed away

Flags are at half staff at West Grey municipal facilities following the passing of the first mayor, Delton Becker.

Becker passed away late in the evening on January 31, 2024.

Becker served as West Grey's mayor from 1999 to 2006. He also served the former Township of Bentinck and the Municipality of West Grey at Grey County council for over 24 years.

A statement from the municipality called Becker a dedicated community builder, who was known for his passion and support for local heritage, as well as his dedication as an elected official.

"As large a man as Delton was, his passion for his community exceeded that! Delton was a pillar of his community and his ommitment to municipal governance was unwavering. Throughout the years, I felt privileged to have Delton as a mentor, and even more grateful to call him a friend,” said West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles. "On behalf of council, the many past councils and West Grey staff, our heartfelt condolences to Helen and the entire Becker family."
