OPP warning of grandparent scams after $9,500 loss

Grey Bruce OPP are again warning residents to be cautious of scams after a local resident was conned out of almost $9,500.

Police said the con artist posed as the victim's child and said they were involved in a collision and was under arrest. They asked for, and were given, a payment of $9,450.

Two more attempts were made on the same day, one in Southgate Township, the other in Dundalk. No further payments were given.

Police remind you to be cautious of anything that seems too good to be true. Or, if you receive a call from a loved one in distress, hang up and call the person who is supposedly calling to verify.

Any concerns with your technology should be taken to a reputable repair shop, gift cards are always a red flag, and if you didn't initiate contact with a person, what they are asking should always be verified.
