Brightshores Health System unveils new CT scanner in Southampton

In a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on the evening of November 22, 2023, Brightshores Health System marked a significant milestone with the introduction of a new CT scanner at Southampton Hospital.

Previously, Brightshores had a single scanner located at the Owen Sound Hospital, with around 20 per cent of the annual 16,185 CT scans catering to patients from Saugeen Shores and nearby areas. The completion of a 10,000-square-foot renovation at Southampton Hospital in 2019 paved the way for the new CT scanner.

“A new CT scanner in Southampton will greatly increase local access for patients, reduce costs associated with ambulance transfers to our Owen Sound Hospital, and give patients faster access to their test results,” said Ann Ford, President and CEO of Brightshores.

The existing CT scanner at the Owen Sound Hospital operates five days a week for scheduled visits and is available 24/7 for urgent cases.

The expansion comes just two weeks after the commencement of operations for a second MRI machine at the Owen Sound Hospital.
