Man arrested after foot chase by Owen Sound police

The report of a suspicious man led to a foot pursuit through Owen Sound and an eventual arrest.

Police said they were contacted around 10 p.m. on Friday, about concerns of a suspicious man leaving a home on 29th Street West.

According to officers, when they arrived they found a man riding a bicycle in the area. When asked, it was determined that the man gave the officers a false name to avoid being arrested on outstanding warrants.

"Upon coming to the realization that his true identity was known to the officers, the man fled," police said in a statement.

After a foot chase that spanned several city blocks, police contained the suspect in the area of Kelso Beach at Nawash Park.

Police said that in addition to the arrest warrants, the man was found in possession of three prohibited weapons, stolen passports, stolen identity documents, and a men’s watch that had been reported stolen to Winnipeg Police in June.

A 44-year-old Owen Sound man faces 10 criminal charges.
