Hanover senior arrested for attempted murder

A 72-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a family member.

Hanover police responded to a 9th Street address, between 6th and 7th Avenues, around 10:15 a.m. on Friday, for reports of a shooting outside the home.

"An ongoing dispute between family members resulted in a 72-year-old male shooting an adult relative in the head with a flare gun at close range," police said.

The victim, a 55-year-old Hanover man, was transported to the Hanover and District Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police recovered the flare gun at the scene and assured that it was an isolated incident, with no threat to public safety.

Raymond Dietrich, 72, was arrested and will stay in custody until his scheduled court appearance on Monday.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
