Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson held a news conference in Clinton on June 13 to announce the launch of a new mental health and addictions service in Huron-Bruce and Perth-Wellington.
Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo says getting to the service they need is particularly difficult for people living in rural communities if they don't have access to a vehicle. Thompson says the partnership with Medavie is a $3 million plus service that will take the service to the people.
“To make sure that people who want to be in their homes are supported in their homes. In rural Ontario it's imperative that we make sure that people have the wrap-around supports they need no matter where they are. And that includes going right to an individuals home," said Thompson.
Thompson says the Medavie van will do exactly that.
“It should give people throughout this region of Midwestern Ontario confidence that if they need support, we're going to have a mobile unit that will be partnering with our local service providers and they will have what they need," Thompson added.
The service will operate eight to ten hours a day, five days a week and will be in set locations to be determined in consultations with the community.
Along with Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo, Thompson was joined by Perth-Wellington MPP Mathew Rae, Huron County Warden Glen McNeil, Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn, and Bruce County Warden Chris Peabody.
