Murder charge laid following car crash in The Blue Mountains

One person is accused of second degree murder following a fatal single vehicle collision in The Blue Mountains.

Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the OPP say the incident happened just before 6 a.m. on January 26.

Police say a grey-coloured Mitsubishi Outlander SUV was travelling northbound on Arrowhead Road, just south of Highway 26 when it drove into a ditch. The vehicle then came to a stop and caught fire.

Officers say a dead body was found inside the vehicle. She has been identified as 40-year-old Ashley Schwalm of Collingwood.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say they have charged 38-year-old James Schwalm with Second Degree Murder and Indignity to a Dead Body.

An OPP spokesperson told CKNX News no other details can be released at this time.
