Winter weather travel advisory for Grey-Bruce county

Heavy snow and icy conditions are expected to hit several areas across Grey-Bruce county overnight, prompting Environment Canada to issue a winter weather travel advisory.

Starting Saturday around midnight, flurries will persist throughout Hanover, Dundalk, Southern Grey County, Owen Sound, Blue Mountains, and Northern Grey County, turning into heavier snowfall near sunrise. The weather agency predicts 5 - 10 centimetres of snowfall could accumulate by Sunday afternoon.

Road conditions are likely to be affected by this inclement weather. Reduced visibility is possible at times of heavier snowfall. Environment Canada also warns residents of the area of freezing drizzle, which could create a slippery layer of ice on the ground, hidden underneath the snow.

"Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas," Environment Canada's weather advisory read. "Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery."
