Another hospital in the region has announced a weekend closure of its emergency department.
The South Grey Bruce Health Centre (SGBHC) announced Friday afternoon that the emergency department at the hospital in Durham will close on Saturday afternoon and re-open Sunday morning. It will close again Sunday afternoon before re-opening on Monday morning. The hospital says the closures will run from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.
The closures are the result of an ongoing shortage of registered nurses and registered practical nurses.
"All efforts to find staffing for the Emergency Department have been undertaken without success," the SGBHC said.
Ambulances will be diverted to the nearest open emergency department.
