Blyth Festival's season underway

The Blyth Festival's 2022 season was officially launched on Friday night.

Artistic Director Gil Garratt says the actors are excited about the start of the season and about the chance to perform on the outdoor Harvest Stage, which was a big hit last year.

Garratt says one of the things they're trying to accomplish with the expansion is to create seating capacity equivalent to the seating capacity in Memorial Hall.

Garratt says he envisions the day, not too far away, when they could have a sold out show in the in the afternoon in the theatre and then everybody could move out to the Fair Grounds for a show in the evening.

“And we've had so much support from the Feds and the Province and this has just been a community rallying around this project. The municipality has been so helpful, I mean, everybody together. So, a year later, we are already expanding the audience down there,” said Garratt.

Garratt says he's not aware of any other place where they've built an outdoor stage beside the indoor theatre, but the response to the Harvest Stage has been very rewarding.

The theatre is showcasing four plays this season.

The Drawer Boy runs until July 16.

Cottagers and Indians runs July 21 to August 6.

The Walz runs August 11 to 27.

John Ware Reimagined runs September 1 to 24.
