Kincardine kicks of Pride Month with flag raising

The Municipality of Kincardine has kicked off Pride Month with three separate flag raisings, located at the Kincardine library, Davidson Centre, and the Tiverton Fire Hall.

Member of Kincardine Pride, Lanny Irving, says having different pride flags throughout the community shows that Kincardine is a safe place to be yourself.

“It means that people can go places without being harassed and disrespected, and there’s a lot of non-judgmental people out there which is nice to see. Everybody is more accepting nowadays which is amazing. Change is happening,” said Irving.

President of Kincardine Pride, Fort Papalia, says he’s proud of the progress this community has made over the years.

“In the past, you’d never see a rainbow flag, people really were not familiar with it. Now, it’s a common sight, rainbow colours and symbols, and inclusivity.”

Kincardine Pride will once again be holding a Pride Parade, scheduled for June 25th at 11am with festivities to follow afterwards in Victoria Park.
