The Co-Chair of Huron County's Cycling Advisory Committee says the popularity of cycling in Huron County has grown tremendously in the last few years.
Jennifer Burns says the work that's been done on the G-2-G Trail along with a general increase in cycling throughout the Province has resulted in an increase in the number of people cycling in Huron County.
County council approved a motion to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Regional Tourism Organization 4 to receive $55,000 in funding to develop a new Cycling Master Plan for Huron County.
“We are looking to identify a network of cycling routes, with consideration to both commuter cycling and tourism opportunities and really just trying to ensure that they have a comprehensive and a sound cycling plan,” said Burns. “And as part of that map we are hoping for four cycle tourism itineraries or experiences. For example, we've got our G-2-G Trail, the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, potentially some opportunities for mountain biking and gravel biking.”
Burns also points out, aside from the general increase in cycling, something relatively new and very popular is gravel biking.
She says there's a lot of interest from people who are looking for a quieter, scenic ride, but also people who are looking for some adventure and want to travel back roads.
