Heritage fund established to encourage preservation

Organizations looking for funding from the Huron Heritage Fund now have two months to submit their application.

Director of Cultural Services, Beth Rumble, says the Huron Heritage Fund was established in 2007 to encourage the preservation of heritage assets and activities of heritage importance in the county.

“So the Huron Heritage Fund is available for any kind of Heritage project, whether it be a building, a publication, anything that's focused on Heritage we are willing to support, basically,” said Rumble.

In recent years, projects have included support for the digitization of artifacts at the Bayfield Historical Society, the Van Egmond Foundation, local historical publications and Huron Perth Junior Farmers.

“The past years we have been over subscribed, so we've received from ten to fifteen, on average. And we've got $25,000 to allocate, so typically we see about seven to nine of those receiving funding. It all depends on the amount that they're requesting as well," added Rumble.

The Huron Heritage Fund can provide up to $5,000 of matching funds for each project.

The deadline for applications is May 1st and more information about the program and the application can be found on the Huron County Museum website.
