Royal Canadian Navy in need of new sailors

The Royal Canadian Navy says it needs to recruit about 1,000 new sailors to crew the country's warships.

Vice Admiral Craig Baines told the Canadian Press that although the situation is not critical yet, but this is only because the navy recently retired three destroyers and two support ships over the past ten years, and those have yet to be replaced.

New ships are starting to roll off the production line, however, and Baines says he is worried that he won't have enough sailors to operate all of them.

Overall recruitment for all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces are said to be seeing a dramatic fall in recruitment recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
