Program strives to reinvigorate 'main streets'

Huron County's Director of Economic Development says FedDev Ontario is investing over $23 million to reinvigorate and accelerate growth of main street businesses across southern Ontario communities in the aftermath of COVID.

Vicki Lass says there are two streams, but the one that is currently accepting applications in the Main Street Community Activator Program.

“That program will support local community place-making projects, including events, activities, enhancements and policy and capacity building projects designed to draw visitors and increase local vibrancy,” said Lass.

One example of a successful application in Huron County, to the Main Street Community Activator Program, is the Light Tunnel that's being installed in Clinton, beside the town hall.

They're encouraging local communities or BIAs to look at activities that will draw people to their communities and support their businesses through the pandemic.

Lass says anyone interested in applying can go to the mymainstreet.ca website to review the entire application process.
