Kincardine officials ask for a housing plan

Kincardine council has directed staff to develop a 'housing action plan'.

In a release from the municipality, officials state that housing and rental prices have increased dramatically while housing supply and rental vacancy rates have dropped to an all time low.

According to the Realtors’ Association Grey Bruce Owen Sound, the average home sale price in October of this year in the Kincardine area was $657,322, which was a 26.1% increase from from October 2020.

Mayor Gerry Glover stated that housing is a basic human need and improving the local housing situation will require collaboration between multiple layersof government, private and public sector organizations, developers, non-profit organizations, and the community.

In 2020, the Municipality of Kincardine launched the 2020 to 2025 Economic Development Strategy and it identified housing affordability as one of the community’s greatest challenges along with the cost of living.

The public is encouraged to find more information about the project and submit ideas to address the housing crisis at www.kincardinetalks.ca/housing.
