High winds pose risk of erosion and flooding on Lake Huron Shore

The Ausable Bayfield and Saugeen Valley Conservation Authorities are monitoring shoreline conditions for possible flooding.

Wind warnings, weather statements and snow squall watches are in effect for for many parts of midwestern Ontario.

A cold front will be moving through southern Ontario today bringing strong westerly winds to the Lake Huron shoreline.

Sustained wind speeds of 70 km/hr, gusting to 90 km/hr will persist until Tuesday morning.

Strong and sustained winds will produce maximum wave heights in the range 3 to 4 metres, peaking this evening, before dissipating through the day tomorrow.

Lake Huron water levels have dropped below record highs but remain above the December average.

Saturated or frozen ground will increase the risk of shoreline erosion and flooding of low-lying areas.
