South Huron cancels Canada Day celebrations out of respect to Indigenous communities

The Municipality of South Huron has approved a motion to cancel Canada Day activities.

Council voted unanimously (with one councilor absent) on the motion earlier this week to cancel festivities on July 1st, with a post on the Municipality's Facebook page saying "out of respect for the Indigenous communities grief in respect to the events from residential schools and the recent discovery of bodies due to them".

South Huron had no in-person Canada Day celebrations planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was going to conduct celebrations virtually on its website and Facebook pages.
