Local conservation authority celebrates 75th year

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is celebrating its 75th this year.

Corporate Services Coordinator, Abigail Gutteridge says part of that celebration they're profiling the municipal-community-conservation partnerships in their 12 member municipalities.

“We have been very lucky to work with some really wonderful communities in our watershed and all of our member municipalities have been so supportive," said Gutteridge. "And we just wanted to find a way to acknowledge them and acknowledge the great work that has gone on and the great partnerships between ourselves and the municipalities.”

The first member municipality to be recognized is Huron East.

And the work done by St James and St. Columban and Seaforth Public schools are being recognized.

“One of which is the Yellow Fish Road program and I believe it was Seaforth Public that participated in that and they paint yellow fishes on farm drains to remind community members that that water does eventually go out into our rivers and streams,” said Gutteridge.

The message is if you don't want it to get into the rivers, don't pour it down the drain.
