Homeless shelter up and running in Huron County

Huron County's emergency shelter is fully up and running.

The Out of the Cold: Heart to Home emergency shelter opened in the middle of November.

And Warden Glen McNeil says the county is grateful for the long list of community partners that have made it possible.

“And we have staff that are trained in the field and they're there to help. And this is to assist the homeless so they can get back on their feet and get into supportive housing in the future and the public has been very, very supportive,” said McNeil.

But he adds the problem is certainly not exclusive to Huron County or even Ontario, but it's a problem that Huron County cannot address alone.

The emergency shelter runs out of the North Street United Church in Goderich.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact Housing Programs Coordinator Alexa Watt, at awatt@huroncounty.ca or call 519-482-8505, ext. 4255.
