Housing trumps trailers in North Huron decision

The decision by North Huron council Monday to sell the trailer park in Wingham came down to access to housing.

The township owns the land on the west side of the town and the Legion has managed it.

But after the results of a couple of environmental studies were released, council felt it was in the best interest to move ahead with the sale of the property.

"We have such a shortage of housing in North Huron," said Bailey. "The town actually owns the land, we've already done two of the studies that are needed. So as soon as we can let the people leasing there right now know, we can move ahead with it," said Bailey.

A group, including users of the park, started a Facebook page 'Save the Wingham Trailer Park' and a petition.

Supporters pointed to heritage and tourism as some of the reasons to keep the trailer park going.
