Building activity continues to hold strong in Saugeen Shores this year, despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic,
After 2019's record-setting year for building activity, another $32 million worth of construction started in Saugeen Shores in the first half of the year, well above the five-year January-to-June average of $27 million.
After some restrictions were placed on new building permits for several weeks earlier this year, Building department staff are now processing plans and issuing permits at an accelerated rate.
As of Friday, 155 building permits have been issued, 57 of which were permits for new homes in Saugeen Shores.
"It would be an understatement to say 2020 has been a challenging year for construction projects," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. "But these building numbers demonstrate Saugeen Shores' continued growth, which is creating new opportunities to improve our residents' quality of life throughout our community."
The construction value total includes residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and other new builds, renovations, additions, and demolitions.
