Long weekends have attracted thousands in the past

If you are planning on spending the last long weekend of the summer at the beach, be sure to follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines.

South Bruce Peninsula had closed beaches within the township earlier this summer after too many visitors disregarded proper COVID-19 protocols, but re-opened them at the beginning of July and have been monitoring them since.

"We've increased our by-law enforcement. We now have paid duty police on the beach and a very strong message that you need to behave or you won't have the beach for the rest of the summer", said Mayor, Janice Jackson.

Jackson says they have not had many issues since re-opening Sauble Beach, and is hopeful the long-weekend won't affect that.

"We'd love to have you at Sauble, you're more than welcome to come. Just please respect our beach, respect our community, and respect our residents."

On a typical weekend, Sauble Beach can see 40,000 visitors, and up to 80,000 on a long weekend.

Posters have been put up by local businesses and on social media about the guidelines that are in place, and masks and sanitizers have been given to local businesses.
