UPDATE: Police identify 13-year-old Kitchener girl who died in boating incident at Conestogo Lake

Provincial police in Wellington County are investigating a boating incident at Conestogo Lake where a teenage girl was killed.

Police were called to the lake located near County Road 11 in Mapleton, on Sunday afternoon after a 13-year-old female sustained life-threatening injuries from being hit by a boat. Rescuers were able to pull the unconscious girl from the water, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as Tania Yonan of Kitchener.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Marine Unit officers continue to investigate the matter while the lake and roadways remain open.

Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed the incident to call 1-888-310-1122.
