House fire extinguished in east Owen Sound

Fire officials are investigating after a fire broke out at a home in an east end neighbourhood in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service said emergency crews responded to the blaze at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, however, an address was not provided.

"Neighbours first reported seeing smoke and after only a few minutes, the entire rear of the home was engulfed in flames," police said in a news release. "A quick-acting neighbour realized the owners were not home and attended to open the front door, retrieving the family’s dog who was still inside."

The fire was quickly extinguished but the home sustained heavy damage and the siding of a neighbouring home was also damaged. An estimate of the cost of the damages has not been provided.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
