Motorcycle collision with deer sends one to the hospital

Drivers are being reminded to be extra observant after a collision involving a deer and motorcycle sent one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police said the collision happened on Perth Line 44, in the Township of Perth East, shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday.

OPP said a deer crossed in front of a motorcycle, which caused the driver and a passenger to be ejected. The passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The reminder to be vigilant on area roadways comes as warmer weather sets in. Police have listed tips below on how motorcyclists can enhance their safety.

- Wear highly visible clothing

- Properly position a motorcycle on roadways

- Reduce low light and night riding

- Don't take chances or make risky maneuvers

- Ride at the appropriate speed and never in excess of the posted limit

- Never ride after consuming alcohol or drugs
