Kincardine resident loses $40K to scam

A fraudster was able to suck $40,000 out of a Kincardine resident by pretending to be an employee from a bank.

It's not a new scam but police said the victim was contacted by someone pretending to be from a bank with a warning of suspicious activity about the victim's account.

Through multiple transactions, the victim lost $40,000.

South Bruce OPP said the best defence against this type of scam is contact your bank in person to verify any concerns about suspicious activity.

Adding modern, tech-savvy scammers have the ability to create convincing scams and won't hesitate to use the names of legitimate companies to gain your trust.
