OPP lift 'hold and secure' at local school

A police investigation in Wiarton prompted a hold and secure at Peninsula Shores District School on Monday.

Just after 1 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP officers were called to an open field area directly north of Peninsula Shores District School (PSDS) in Wiarton about noises similar to a firearm.

The caller saw a person run away from the area, possibly with a firearm. OPP officers attended the scene and secured the school and set up containment of the surrounding area.

OPP resources including, OPP Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team were dispatched to assist in the investigation.

Prior to resources attending, Grey Bruce OPP officers were able to confirm that the noises heard by the caller were firecrackers and that no firearm was involved in the incident
