Fire destroys farm house near Blyth

A Blyth-area woman has lost her home and contents in a fire.

A smoke alarm woke the woman just after midnight Thursday, and she was able to get out of the house and make an emergency call.

The farmhouse on Burns Line was engulfed in flames and smoke when firefighters arrived.

Tankers from Wingham and Brussels assisted the Blyth fire crew. The cause has not been determined.

Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $300,000.
